My sister is a 67 year old diabetic with heart problems. About every 6 months to a year she developes a severe headache and throwing up with vision problems. Also eye itself seems to swell. She has been admitted into the hospital about 5 times with this and has MRI's and catscans. The catscan and MRI's show that she has a swelling of the pituitary gland. They have ruled out a tumor and an anurisim. After about 5 days the the headache goes away but she is left with visiual problems for about 6 to 7 weeks. MRI's  and catscans show that the swelling has gone down after this many weeks and her vision returns to normal. This has happend about 5 time in the last 4 years. This swelling can occur in either eye when it happens. Can you give me any help on this???

You sister should see an endocrinologist. Unfortunately, I have learned the hard way the pituitary hormone function fluctuates vastly.

This is National Institute of Health information on pituitary swelling

Orbital invasion by a pituitary adenoma is a rare event.
